So I'm starting to panic when looking through recipes. The slick production on the Cooking Channel had me fooled that I can do this, and after reading through some of the recipes, I don't know that I can! I really wanted to start with something Italian. The Cooking Channel has a show called Everyday Italian with Giada De Laurentiis. She does some great looking food, and makes it look so easy, but when I started trolling through recipes I realized (1) I don't know what some of these ingredients ARE and (2) where I'm gonna find some of this stuff when I do figure out what it is!
Looks like we will be making a trip to Central Market this weekend. One of the recipes I really like calls for pancetta, which I know I can't get from the local HEB. But here in San Antonio, HEB has a specialty store called Central Market. I love it, its a beautiful store with everything you can imagine, everything fresh, great wine selection and I could pretty much move into the cheese department. I think every grocery store should look like this instead of the cheap, generic crap they have on the shelves at most. But of course, we are a family on a budget so we have to settle for cheap, generic crap!
Anyways, Central Market is in town. A little bit of a drive since we moved out to the suburbs a couple of years ago. And, by the way, I have been trying to get back to the city ever since. We moved out here for the schools, but I miss the city. One day, maybe when the kids are older, or we can afford private school we will move back. But for now I will enjoy the view I have of the forest behind my cookie cutter house in the 'burbs!
I really miss the real markets we used to go to when I lived in England. Proper farmer's markets. We would go get up every Saturday morning plop Lo in his stroller and head to Swaffam Market and get all of our groceries for the week. Fresh veggies, meat from the butcher van! All for the same price you would find it for in the store. Loved it! MISS it! Hubby and I looked for a market here around SA. New Braunfels has a farmers market but it was really small, and had $6 tomatoes and $12 steaks, NOT for a family on a budget. Then we tried Olmos Market in SA, their Saturday market had 3 pick-up trucks with food. We didn't even bother parking!
On another note, I haven't worked out since Zumba class Monday. My knee has been bothering me, and midway through the class I wasn't able to put much weight on it. I figured I needed to rest it. So I have been taking a break from both Zumba and running. Hopefully my knee will heal and I can get back to it. I guess it's a good sign that I have actually missed it. I was dreaming about running last night. I think I'm gonna sign up for a 10k now while I am in the enjoyment stage!
